487 Sqn and Detached Flight say Happy Birthday to the ATC!

Getting Ready!

On Sunday 7th February 15 cadets from 487 Sqn Kingstanding and Perry Barr ATC, and 10 cadets from the 487 Sqn Detached Flight travelled to Daventry to take part in the annual ATC Anniversary parade.

The cadets were accompanied by four members of staff and also the Sqn’s civilian committee chairman. It was a very cold and grey day, but not as bad as last year when it seemed the whole of Daventry was covered in ice!

The cadets and staff marched from a local school in Daventry to the Church of the Holy Cross. The roads were closed off as the cadets marched down the high street and there were plenty of well wishers along the way.

The cadets and staff were given an entertaining address by Father Neil Bayliss who is the Sqn Padre at 489 Sqn.

After the church service was completed, the cadets and staff formed up again to march past the assembled dignitaries who included Gp Capt Brett Morrell, OC Central and East Region and also members of Daventry District Council, and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire.

Once back at the school, the cadets made their way back to Casey’s bar for some well deserved food.

Flying Officer Simon Jennings commented “I would like to thank all the staff and cadets for giving up their Sunday to come with us to Daventry. This is one of the most important days in the ATC year; we estimate we had well over 200 cadets on parade on Sunday. A total of 25 cadets from the Sqn and D/F is a good number, certainly more than we had last year. Thanks again to everybody”.
